Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security meeting in the Kirya with the participation of Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon, Shin Bet Chief Yoram Cohen, and other military officials who decided to expand Operation Protective Edge following the barrage of rockets fired at Israeli communities.
According to the Prime Minister’s instructions, the IDF must prepare for an extensive campaign, with a long and extensive ground operation in Gaza being on the table. The goal of the operation as presented by Netanyahu is to hit Hamas very hard to the point that they will be deterred. “We will take serious action against Hamas,” Netanyahu stressed.
It was also decided to increase recruitment from the Israeli reserves. Defense Minister Ya’alon’s proposal for raising enlistment will be discussed later on today. “The goal is to restore quiet in the south,” a source close to the Prime Minister stated. “At this meeting, the instructions are that quiet will be answered with quiet.”
